LGBT: April is Fair Housing Month
Study: Same-sex couples battle bias in senior housing
A study by the Equal Rights Center finds that gay, lesbian and bisexual couples are quoted higher prices and have a tougher time than heterosexual couples when trying to find senior housing.
The study found that testers posing as same-sex couples faced more application requirements or were steered away from units they had requested, despite having a better financial status than comparable heterosexual couples.
Low Income LGBT Community Opens in Philadelphia
Philadelphia Inquirer reports the first housing development in the country designed specifically for low-income seniors in the LGBT community had its "official" opening today in center city Philadelphia.
The John C. Anderson Apartments, at 249 South 13th Street, was temporarily swathed in rainbow-colored banners for today's ribbon-cutting, but LGBT seniors have actually been living here since January.
One resident says that what makes this place so different from every other is that "it's seniors, they're friendly, it's a community, you feel safe."
