White House Welcomes Lutheran Homes Society Staff
David Roberts, president and CEO of Lutheran Homes Society (LHS), and Nancy Wellman, LHS director of public policy advocacy, were guests at the White House on Oct. 28, 2011, as part of a day-long event with other leaders from Lutheran health and human service organizations across the country.
Lutheran Services in America helped organize the event, which included more than 160 participants from almost 30 states and over 50 different Lutheran organizations. The leaders went to Washington, DC, to:
- Receive briefings from administration officials.
- Attend issue-specific sessions with policy makers.
- Raise questions, concerns, and recommendation about social service provisions.
LHS staff learned more about the administration’s priorities and raised key issues facing Lutheran Homes Society and the communities it supports.
“This was a unique opportunity for Lutheran Homes Society to share our concerns about issues that affect those most vulnerable in our population, primarily the young and the old,” Mr. Roberts said. “Our priorities include Medicaid, Medicare, housing, senior services, and other issues facing our constituency.”
