PointClickCare Gets Recognition, Starts Partnerships, and Shares Tips for HIE

Published On: Mar 30, 2016

PointClickCare, a LeadingAge Silver Partner with CAST focus, has been named one of Canada’s Best Managed Companies for excellence in business performance.

The Best Managed program, established in 1993, recognizes Canadian companies that demonstrate strategy, capability, and commitment to achieve sustainable growth. This is the third year that PointClickCare has received the award.

“This award is a true reflection of the hard work and dedication that our team delivers each and every day, and I am proud of the entire PointClickCare team on this well-deserved recognition,” said Mike Wessinger, chief executive officer of PointClickCare in a statement. “We aren’t just committed to investing in our product, we are committed to investing in our people, and it is because of these people that we are able to uphold this prestigious ranking.”

2 New Partnerships

PointClickCare has joined forces with gEHRiMed, the creator of the first Stage-2 Certified Electronic Health Record (EHR) designed exclusively for medical providers working in long-term and post-acute care (LTPAC) settings.

The integration of gEHRiMed and PointClickCare solutions will enable real-time patient data exchange between a physician’s EHR (gEHRiMed) and a long-term and post-acute care provider’s EHR (PointClickCare). This will help care teams across the continuum connect seamlessly, while leveraging the industry’s latest standards and technology innovation advancements, according to a statement

PointClickCare is also partnering with Secure Exchange Solutions to provide its LTPAC customers with the ability to exchange information with physicians, health systems, and health information exchanges (HIE) nationwide. The integration of Secure Exchange Solutions and PointClickCare technology will allow senior care providers to exchange information about their residents during a hospital admission or as those residents transition into a long-term care setting.

5 Tips for Connecting to an HIE

Connecting with an HIE was the topic of a recent McKnight's Long-Term Care News article by Lee-Ann Ruf, PointClickCare’s senior product manager of health information technology. Ruf shared these tips for connecting your care setting to an HIE:

  1. Don't reinvent the wheel. Visit your prospective HIE's annual user group meeting and gather implementation strategies from HIE members who are ahead of you in their implementation process.
  2. Get help from your vendor. A good vendor will also serve as a good partner.
  3. Connect the dots. Find HIEs with participants in your referral network.
  4. Decide what data will go where. Determine what data will pass from your network to the HIE. This will depend on payer requirements and the data systems you're using.
  5. Count the costs. Estimate costs associated with initial integration and setup, ongoing HIE subscription fees, the implementation team, staff training, and legal fees.
