Citing the Ebola scare and other events, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Office for Civil Rights (OCR) issued a bulletin outlining the rules for sharing patient privacy information under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) Privacy Rule during emergency situations.

Coordinator for Health Information Technology have released model Notices
of Privacy Practices that health care providers and health plans can use to
communicate with their patients and plan members. The notices are compliant with
changes to the HIPAA privacy rule affected by the so-called HIPAA Omnibus Rule
in January of 2013.
